Same-Day
Same-Day Dumpster Rental in Rochester
Call early and we can usually get a container to you today. We will tell you honestly when we cannot, which in a Rochester January is a more useful answer than a promise nobody can keep.
Same-day service is a routing question, not a marketing claim. We run our own trucks out of our own yard on the west side, so when you call, the person on the phone can see what is already on the board for today and what is coming back empty. Call before the morning route goes out and there is a good chance we can fit you in, particularly on the west side of the county where we start. Call at three in the afternoon for a 30 yard in Webster and the honest answer is tomorrow morning. We would rather give you a real time than an optimistic one, because a container that turns up at six in the evening after your crew has gone home has not helped anybody. The number is (585) 514-5622 and it rings in the yard, not in a call center in another state.
Winter is where same-day service in Rochester genuinely differs from same-day service anywhere else, and the reason is the lake. This county averages 102 inches of snow a year, the highest normal of any large metro in the country, and roughly half of that is lake-effect off Lake Ontario rather than ordinary synoptic snow. Lake-effect does not fall evenly. The gradient across Monroe County runs about 70 inches a year south of the city, around 90 in the city itself, and over 120 along the lakeshore east of it. On a single January morning that can mean clear pavement in Chili and eight inches in Webster, laid down in a band four miles wide. Our routing on those mornings is built around the band, not around the map, and that is why we will sometimes take a Greece job today and push a Penfield job to tomorrow.
January is the hardest month by a distance: about 27 inches of snow spread over roughly eighteen snow days, which means it is snowing on more days than it is not. February brings about 23 inches and December about 22. What that does to a same-day request is simple. Plowing has priority on every street in the county, driveways are narrower than usual because the banks take a foot off each side, and a set point that was fine in October has a three-foot pile of plow spoil on it in February. If you can clear the spot before we arrive, tell us and we will hold the slot. If you cannot, tell us that too, because there are set points we can work with and set points we cannot, and knowing which is which before the truck leaves the yard saves everybody a wasted run. Our winter article covers the rest.
Same-day requests fall into a few predictable shapes and we size them over the phone. A burst pipe or a failed sump that has put water through a finished basement is a wet-contents job, which means a smaller container than the volume suggests because saturated carpet, cardboard and furniture weigh two to three times what they look like. A closing on Friday with the previous owner’s belongings still in the house is a volume job, usually a 20 or a 30. A tenant who left a unit full is a turnover, usually a 15 or a 20. A tree limb through a garage roof after a wind event is mixed debris and urgent. Tell us which of those it is and we will pick the container without a site visit. The sizing guide covers the same ground in more detail if you want to check yourself first.
Two things speed up a same-day delivery more than anything else. First, know where the container is going before you call, and know what is above it. Roughly 60 feet of straight approach, about ten and a half feet of width and 20 feet or more of overhead, and in this city the overhead is the electrical service drop under the street canopy. Second, know whether the set point is on private ground. A container entirely on your own driveway is generally outside the City’s right-of-way permit requirement under City Code § 104-24; anything touching the sidewalk, tree lawn or street needs a permit in writing from the City Engineer, and that is not a same-day process. If the street is the only option, we will say so on the phone rather than sending a truck to find out. Call the yard, or get in touch, and we will give you a straight answer about today.
What Same-Day Jobs Usually Look Like Here
Water In A Finished Basement
A failed sump, a burst supply line or an ice dam backing water down an interior wall. Sodden carpet, drywall and furniture, all far heavier than they look, so a smaller container loaded flat.
A Closing On Friday
The previous owner left the house full and the walkthrough is in two days. Pure volume, mostly household contents, usually a 20 or a 30 and often with a second container behind it.
A Tenant Who Left A Unit Full
One side of an up-and-down double emptied at short notice. Furniture, mattresses, carpet and whatever was in the basement bay. A bounded job, usually a 15 or a 20.
Wind And Storm Damage
A limb through a garage roof, a section of fence down, blown-off shingle courses. Mixed debris, urgent, and often the first call of the morning.
A Contractor Who Got Left Short
The container on site filled faster than the schedule said. A swap today keeps a crew of four working instead of standing around, which is the whole economics of the call.
An Estate With A Deadline
A house that has to be cleared before a listing date or a family flies home. We take these seriously and we do not rush the people doing the work. See our estate cleanout page.
A Failed Inspection Before Sale
Debris, an old boiler or years of basement storage that has to be gone before a re-inspection. Usually one container and one weekend if the stairs cooperate.
A Swap That Cannot Wait
An existing container full mid-job. Easiest same-day request we get, because the truck is already coming past and the container is already on the ground.
Sizing A Container Over The Phone
For a same-day booking we size from a description rather than a visit, so give us three things: what the material is, roughly how much of it there is, and where it is coming from. Material first, because it decides everything. Wet contents, plaster, tile and masonry are dense and go in a 15 loaded flat. Household contents, furniture and cabinetry are bulky and light and go in a 20 or a 30. Anything with concrete in it is a separate conversation. Volume second: rooms and floors are a more useful unit than cubic yards, so say a basement and an attic, or one flat, or a garage and a shed. Location third, because a narrow city driveway may only take a 15 no matter what the pile says. If it is genuinely borderline, take the smaller container and plan a swap. That is always cheaper than a container that reaches payload half full and cannot lawfully leave. Dimensions are on the container sizes page.

There is no single cut-off time that is true every day, which is why we will not print one. What is true is the shape of it. Call before the morning route goes out and we can usually work you into today, particularly on the west side of the county. Call mid-morning and it depends what is coming back empty. Call late in the afternoon and the honest answer is usually first thing tomorrow, and you will get a time rather than a maybe. Winter compresses all of it. On a lake-effect morning, with a band sitting over the east of the county, the route rebuilds itself around the snow and a Webster set that looked routine at eight becomes a two-hour job by ten. Clear the set point if you can, tell us if you cannot, and if the driveway has a plow bank across the apron, say so, because that is a five-minute problem if we know and a wasted run if we do not. We would rather tell you no today and yes tomorrow than the other way round.

Same-Day Dumpster Rental FAQs
What time do I have to call by?
Earlier is better and we will not pretend there is a magic number. Call before the morning route leaves the yard and there is a good chance we can fit you in today, especially in Gates, Chili, Greece and the west side neighborhoods, because that is where our first runs go. Mid-morning depends on what is coming back empty. Late afternoon is usually tomorrow first thing. In January and February assume everything takes longer, because plowing has priority on every road in the county and we are working around lake-effect bands rather than an even snowfall. Call (585) 514-5622 and ask; the person answering can see the board.
Can you deliver in the snow?
Yes, and we do it all winter, but there are two limits worth being honest about. The first is the road: on a heavy lake-effect morning the county east of the city can take a foot while the west side stays clear, and until the plows have been through, some streets are not passable with a loaded roll-off truck. The second is your set point. A container has to sit on something stable, and packed snow is not stable — when it melts, the container moves. Clear the spot down to the surface if you can, mind the plow bank across the apron, and tell us what you are looking at so we can plan the set rather than discover it.
Do you charge more for same-day?
Call the yard and we will give you the number for your job before we book anything. What we will say here is that we do not run a surcharge model that punishes you for having an emergency. What actually drives the price is the container size, the material and where you are in the county, the same as any other booking. What can change a same-day price is a wasted run, which is why we ask so many questions on the phone about the approach, the overhead and the set point. Five minutes of questions is cheaper than a truck that arrives and cannot make the set.
What if my container has to go in the street?
Then same-day is unlikely, and we will tell you that on the phone rather than after. A container in the Rochester right-of-way needs a permit in writing from the City Engineer under City Code § 104-24, and that is not something arranged in an afternoon. Section 104-24(C) also requires the obstruction to be barricaded and lit at night, which we handle with reflective marking. If the driveway will take a 15 even though you wanted a 20, that is usually the faster route to having a container today. Our permit guide explains what to expect.
Can you take the container away the same day too?
Sometimes, and it is worth asking. A same-day collection is easier than a same-day delivery, because an empty truck coming back through your side of the county can pick up on the way. What makes it harder is weight and load height. If the material is heaped above the rim we cannot tarp it and we cannot legally move it, so it has to come down first. If the load is dense — plaster, masonry, wet contents — the collection is a payload question rather than a scheduling one. Call before noon if you want same-day collection and we will tell you what the route allows.
